Internationalising the Curriculum

A curriculum lies at the core of every degree programme, and at UAS BFI Vienna the curriculums ensure that all of our students develop international and intercultural skills during their studies. With this in mind, the university implemented a curriculum internationalisation project entitled ‘Internationalising the Curriculum – Quality Assurance for International and Intercultural Competences’ from September 2017 to August 2021.

Project outcomes (summary)

  • Update of the university-wide internationalisation strategy and formulation of a related package of measures (process involving representatives from teaching, research and administration, as well as students)
  • Design of a Study Programme Internationalisation Strategy (SPInS) for each of the university’s degree programmes
  • Publication of recommendations for the formulation of international learning outcomes and information for lecturers
  • Symposium on quality and internationalisation
  • Workshops and other training events on interculturality, curriculum internationalisation, and internationalisation and quality
  • Trips to Geneva, Groningen-Leeuwarden, Berlin, Bologna, Iași, The Hague, Prague, Volda and Helsinki
  • Redesign and implementation of a teaching format for stays abroad (CREACT) which encompasses preparation for the stay, support during the stay, and follow-up
  • Introduction of a Chinese language and culture course for students
  • Support for two degree programme relaunches
  • Quality enhancement system for our international university partnerships (EQUATIC)
  • Presentation of project findings at international meetings and conferences in Bratislava, Geneva, Helsinki and Leeuwarden
  • Extension of four double degree agreements
  • Standardisation of English-language terminology used at the university
