Learning outcome
Upon successful completion of the course, students can
- describe cultural patterns and linguistic features in East Asia
- classify the basic approaches of Confucianism and Buddhism and their influence on East Asian culture and illustrate these with examples of East Asian literature and art
- identify examples of local variation and diversity and place them in historical context
- critically reflect on the contemporary discourse on "Asian values" as opposed to "Western values
- assess the relationship between globalisation and localisation through selected East Asian cultural phenomena
- identify and critically reflect on intercultural differences to European trends based on manifestations of gender ideology in East Asian cultures
- integrate the acquisition of competences in the field of languages and cultures of East Asia into one's own perspective and actions in the business environment
