• Basics of road traffic (individual traffic, passenger traffic, freight traffic). • Characteristics of road traffic • Trends and innovations in road transport • Status quo and future developments in road freight transport • Trucks (classes, driving and rest time regulations, toll systems, cabotage) • Introduction to vehicle costs and transport calculation • Basics of commercial road transport (esp. freight contract, freight documents)

• Final written exam (100%). • Content criteria: degree of problem identification and problem characterization, complexity of solutions in terms of technical and methodological competence. • Formal criteria: completeness of answers, linguistic differentiation, and independence of results presentation.

After successful completion of the course students can • name characteristics of road transport and distinguish them from other modes of transport (1) and explain them from a transport economics point of view (2) • describe methods and instruments to support the management of transport companies in the field of road transport (1) and explain their possible applications (2) • explain basic competitive conditions, framework conditions and activities in road freight transport (2) • describe essential trends and innovations in road transport (1) and forecast possible effects (2) • present the fundamentals of commercial road transport (1) • name vehicle costs (1), break them down (1) and use them in a transport calculation (3)
