„Women in Logistics“ – Mentoring-Programm für Frauen in der Logistik

Even today, women still face many obstacles when they aspire to senior specialist or management positions in science or business. Mentoring can help young women to participate in professional life with equal opportunities. The DamenLogistikClub and the Logistics and Transport Management degree programmes at the BFI Vienna University of Applied Sciences initiated the "Women Logistics Mentoring" programme in 2020 to support young women in planning their professional careers, starting their careers or advancing to management positions in logistics. Mentors from among the members of the Women's Logistics Club support female students and graduates of bachelor's and master's degree programmes in logistics and transport management in recognising and developing their own skills and competencies and integrating them more specifically into their career planning. This makes it easier to gain a foothold in the labour market right from the start. Mentoring programmes often result in a professional and personal bond that goes beyond the timeframe of the actual programme. The added value for the mentors lies in the opportunity to reflect on and improve their own behaviour and management style. The insight into the mentees' professional situation also opens up new perspectives from which the mentors can benefit in their everyday work. During the 18-month duration of the programme, in addition to individual meetings between mentors and mentees, various joint events take place, which, in addition to exchange and networking, also provide exclusive insights into the diverse world of logistics

"Logistics is the most versatile industry I know, without logistics our lives would not function. People working in logistics should be just as versatile. Many women who work in logistics are enthusiastic and there are several role models who show that a career in this fascinating industry is possible for women. Creativity and an innovative spirit are qualities that are in demand. The DamenLogistikClub has launched a mentoring programme and it is very clear that there are many talented women who will ensure that logistics has a successful future."

Kommr. Beate Färber-Venz Msc

Beate Färber-Venz has been working in logistics for over 30 years. She is the owner of a medium-sized transport company in the food sector and is responsible for the entire mobility sector in the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce as head of the transport and traffic division, acting as an interface between business and politics. She is also an honorary board member of the DamenLogistikClub and CombiNet - Association for Combined Transport.

"I have also been accompanied on my journey by a number of mentors with whom I am still in contact today. For me, they were always men, because women were rarely available. However, my mentors were men who recognised many years ago that women were also needed in management positions. Now I want to pass on what I have learnt to the next generation."

Nadine Adensam BA MA

Nadine Adensam is a graduate of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programme in Logistics and Transport Management at the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna. During her studies, she gained practical experience in various areas within the industry. Today, she works as a project manager for city logistics in the management office of Wiener Lokalbahnen.

"Despite increased communication of the diverse career opportunities that exist in the transport and logistics sector, the proportion of women in the industry is still low. There are many reasons for this. However, one of the main ones is certainly the lack of role models. Mentoring programmes such as "Women Logistics Mentoring" are therefore, in my opinion, a big step in the right direction and a great support for young women who are at the beginning of their professional careers."

"The logistics and transport sector is significantly affected by the problem of a shortage of skilled labour. On the one hand, a lack of awareness and a (subjectively) low attractiveness of the occupational field are responsible for this. On the other hand, there has been a shift towards the labour market. With this programme, we have set ourselves the goal of increasing the proportion of women in logistics professions, promoting female careers in logistics and alleviating the shortage of skilled workers in the industry."
