Civil Law and Contract Law

This course consists of an introduction to Austrian jurisdiction and civil law issues, such as legal capacity and contractual capability, contract law including the presentation of the most important types of contracts, agency, content and expiration of claims, default, tort, unjust enrichment law and property law.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Applied methods including macro and micro levels of teaching. Macro methods are case studies, analyses and debates. Micro methods are keynote lectures, dialogic learning, text analyses and discussions. Students work individually, in groups or in the plenum.

Assessment methods and criteria

One grade for both lecture and tutorial part of class. In total 70 points for final written exam. The tutorial part is worth 30 points (continuous assessment). In total 100 points are to be obtained.

After the successful completion of this course the students will be able to understand civil law as a basis of economic life and to distinguish its content from other legal areas; they will also be able to evaluate issues regarding civil and contract law occurring in daily economic business as well as to efficiently communicate with legal advisors
