ABSTRACT

Global investment and growth patterns have changed considerably during the last decades. Emerging market multinationals have become increasingly important. Against this background, the paper tries to analyze the role of corporate ownership and cross border investment for economic development. In so doing, we give an overview of relevant theoretical approaches. In the following, selected theoretical perspectives are used for the analysis of historical and ongoing changes in a global perspective. It is concluded that the effects of corporate ownership structures and cross-border investment depend to an important extent on their specific relation with development models.
