Copyright and Trademark Law

This course offers an in-depth study of copyright issues. Apart from fundamentals of copyright and trademark law, the most relevant fields of practical application will be introduced. The predominant types of exploitation will be explained from a legal point of view, and the relevant legal framework will be taught.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Applied methods including macro and micro levels of teaching. Macro methods are case studies, analyses and debates. Micro methods are keynote lectures, dialogic learning, text analyses, examples and discussions. Students work individually, in groups or in the plenum.

Assessment methods and criteria

One grade for both lecture and tutorial part of class. In total 70 points for final written exam. The tutorial part is worth 30 points (continuous assessment). In total 100 points are to be obtained.

Learning outcome

After the successful completion of this course the students will be able to classify and evaluate legal issues pertaining to copyright and trademark law in business practice. Furthermore, the students will possess in-depth knowledge regarding specific areas that are especially relevant in practice, and they will be able to successfully discuss them with legal advisers.
