Fundamentals of Project Management

This course includes an introduction as well as terms and definitions regarding project and project management, and outlines project success, project management processes and methods, project development and project commissioning, project organization, project launch (use of methods for target, output and stakeholder analysis, scheduling, resource and cost planning, …), teamwork in projects, project coordination, project controlling, project marketing, project documentation, project risk and project discontinuities, quality management in projects, project close, and includes an introduction to project-oriented enterprises.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Applied methods including macro and micro levels of teaching. Macro methods are case studies and analyses. Micro methods are keynote lectures, dialogic learning, text analyses and discussions. Students work in groups or in the plenum.

Assessment methods and criteria

One grade for both lecture and tutorial part of class. In total 70 points for final written exam. The tutorial part is worth 30 points (continuous assessment). In total 100 points are to be obtained.

Learning outcome

After the successful completion of this course the students will be able to apply the technical competences and associated PM methods acquired in this course in the framework of simple examples. The students will have obtained a basic understanding of behavioral and contextual PM competencies and will be able to classify applications of project management by means of practical examples.
