Molde is is a lovely little town with heaps of charm and atmosphere. Situated by the Romsdalsfjord, Molde is renowned for its beautiful surroundings and wonderful view. The most famous viewpoint is Varden, where the Molde Panorama allows you to enjoy the extraordinary view of 222 mountain peaks. Molde is located close to tourist attractions like Romsdalseggen, Trollstigen and the Atlantic Road.
Molde has a maritime, temperate climate, with cool-to-warm summers, and relatively mild winters. The town is nicknamed The Town of Roses.
It is an old settlement which emerged as a trading post in the late Middle Ages. Formal trading rights were introduced in 1614, and the town was incorporated through a royal charter in 1742.
The town continued to grow throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, becoming a centre for Norwegian textile and garment industry, as well as the administrative center for the region, and a major tourist destination. After World War II, Molde experienced accelerated growth, and has become a center for not only administrative and public services, but also academic resources and industrial output.
